Thailand is interested in working with ECE
On October 28, a delegation of civil servants from the trade, economic and defense blocs of the Government of the Kingdom of Thailand, led by General of the Royal Thai Army Bunrod Srisombat, visited the headquarters of the Eurasian Economic Commission (ECE).
Goar Barseghyan, Deputy Director of the EEC Integration Development Department, told representatives of Thai government agencies about the current state of Eurasian economic integration, the structure of the Union’s bodies, its international agenda and the development of the Union’s interaction with the kingdom.
“The memorandum signed in 2018 gave a good impetus to the development of our relations and laid a solid foundation for the future. We held a meeting of the joint working group, we fix the growth in trade volumes, we note the mutual interest of government and business circles of the EAEU and Thailand” – said Gohar Barseghyan.
In 2018, trade turnover increased by 17.0% compared to 2017 and amounted to $ 2,863.4 million. Union exports to Thailand grew by 45.7%, to $ 834.9 million, and EAEU imports from the kingdom – by 8.3%, to $ 2,028.4 million.
In addition, as the Deputy Director of the Department for the Development of Integration emphasized, Thailand for the EAEU countries is a reliable bridge in the development of relations with the largest integration association in Asia – the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), with which the Commission signed a Memorandum of Understanding in the field of economic cooperation in November 2018 year.
The head of the Thai delegation noted that the Memorandum of Cooperation between the ECE and the Government of the Kingdom of Thailand in the future will increase the volume of mutual trade in goods and services, increase investments, including by establishing effective interaction between the EAEU and Thailand.
