The National Statistics office said on Wednesday that Georgia’s external trade turnover amounted to $2 billion in January (39.3 percent year-on-year increase). The United States ($361.7 million), the United Kingdom ($267.2 million) and Russia ($203.3 million) were top trading partners of the county.
An increase by 19.3 percent was shown by the value of exports ($403.9 million) and 45.5 percent by imports ($1.60 billion) last month.
Kyrgyzstan ($74.9mln), Azerbaijan ($46.2mln) and Kazakhstan ($45.2mln) headed exports, while the US ($357.3mln), the UK ($266.9mln) and Turkey ($172.9mln) topped imports.
Motor cars ($130 million, 32.2% of total exports), spirituous beverages ($14.3 million, 3.5%), copper ores and concentrates ($13.8 million, 3.4%) were the top export items.
Hand-made paintings, drawings and pastels ($481.1 million, 30% of total imports), motor cars ($151 million, 9.4%), petroleum gases and other gaseous hydrocarbons ($106.9 million, 6.7%) were the three top import commodities.
Locally produced goods worth $403.9 million were exported by the country last month (a 19.3 percent year-on-year increase).
According to the Office, the share of domestic exports in total exports constituted 46.1% and amounted to $186.3 million (11.6% increase).
