More than 5.6 million tons of various goods were transported in Armenia in the first four months of 2023, 11.7% rise compared to the same period in 2022, while the number of transported passenger surged by 26.7.7% to about 56.5 million, according to the National Statistics Committee.
During the period under review, about 3.8 million tons of cargo were transported by trucks, by 16.5% less than in January-April 2022.
More than one million tons were transported by rail transport (13.1% rise), some 797,000 tons were transported by trunk pipeline transport (8.3% drop) and the cargo transported by air almost doubled to 10,000 tons.
In the first 4 months of the year, about 45.5 million people were transported by road transport (28% growth), about 9.4 million by electric transport (15.5% growth), about 1.5 million by air (86% growth) and 152,400 by rail (12.2% growth).
Also, 1,286 road accidents were reported in the first four months of the year, up 9.1% from the same period in 2022.
Some 100 people were killed in these accidents, up 12.4% from the first 4 months of 2022 and another 1,824 were injured (up 7.3%).
In the reporting period of 2023, revenues from postal and courier activities amounted to over 6.8 billion drams, up 35.4% compared to the same period of 2022.
