Around 450 to 600 cars from Armenia have accumulated at the Upper Lars checkpoint on the Russia-Georgia border. Armenia’s customs attaché at Upper Lars, Aram Tananyan, told about this to Armenian News-NEWS.am on Monday morning.
He informed that this checkpoint has been closed since March 9, and assured that the reason is solely the adverse winter weather conditions.
“It is forecasted that the precipitation—in the form of snow—will continue for another week. The Georgian side has closed the Khachi mountain pass,” Tananyan added.
The customs attaché noted that more than 3,000 vehicles had built up near the Upper Lars checkpoint.
“It is already impossible to count. Fifteen to 20 percent of them are Armenian cars,” Aram Tananyan added.
