EU going to raise tariffs on goods from Ukraine – media

The European Union is preparing to raise tariffs on certain goods from Ukraine, the Financial Times said on Wednesday, citing its sources.

“The EU is preparing to apply much higher tariffs on Ukrainian imports within weeks,” the Financial Times said.

As the Ukraine crisis began, the EU allowed duty-free imports of the majority of Ukrainian goods to its market. These transitional measures expire on June 6, 2025.

“The EU is planning to replace it with ‘transitional measures’ while the two sides update their overall trade agreement,” the Financial Times said.

“But diplomats said this transitional proposal, recently sent to EU member states, would drastically cut the tariff-free quotas of agricultural products,” it said.

The EU took the step after Poland demanded that European farmers be protected from cheaper products from Ukraine, the Financial Times said.
