Having taken the office, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk launched a campaign to persuade the European Union into scrapping the Autonomous Trade Measures (ATM) that liberalize trade with Ukraine, Ukrainian media said, citing his statement with the reference to RMF24.
Tusk said the Polish government wants to help Ukraine but this should not be done at the expense of Polish manufacturers, farmers in the first turn.
“We have achieved the goal, and the mechanism will be gone on June 5. We are returning to the pre-crisis situation in terms of border rules,” he said.
The government will ensure Polish economic interests even if they are “at odds” with the Ukrainian ones, Tusk said.
As reported, Polish farmers launched mass protests and blocked the Ukrainian border last year because of tariff-free trade.
