Serbian President meets with his Chinese counterpart in Beijing

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić stated today in Beijing, during a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, that Serbia and China are firm friends and that trade between the two countries has never been greater, adding that the Global Governance Initiative, proposed by the Chinese leadership, is a good concept that Serbia will always support.

Vučić said that Serbia sees China as a sincere friend, noting that China and its president stood by Serbia during difficult times economically, medically, and politically.

“Serbia can never forget that, nor will it ever. Thank you very much because, thanks to your initiatives and the free trade agreement, our trade exchange and our exchange of services have never been greater in our history,” Vučić said.

He stated that Serbia, together with its Chinese partners, had completed the Serbian section of the Belgrade-Budapest international railway, which will be open for traffic in 15 days.

“Thank you also for the investment in the Smederevo steelworks by HBIS, thank you for Zijin’s arrival in eastern Serbia, which literally safeguards that part of our country. Thank you for the many investments, and my great request to you is that you continue to help us with future investments,” Vučić said.

Vučić added that the Initiative is another exceptionally important proposal that the Chinese leadership is offering to humanity.

“All three reasons you mentioned – from greater presence and representation of the Global South, to the erosion of authoritarianism, the disregard of United Nations decisions, to inefficiency in carrying out important tasks such as sustainable development and tackling climate change, and what you offered the world through equality in international relations, non-interference in internal affairs, placing people at the centre of the world and addressing their problems, as well as concrete results – this is a good concept for the future that the Republic of Serbia will always support,” Vučić said.

He expressed satisfaction at having had the opportunity to speak with the Chinese President and thanked him for the warm welcome and outstanding hospitality.

Vučić noted that the parade marking 80 years since liberation from fascism was impressive and left a huge impact worldwide and in Serbia.

He also shared news of the meeting on his Instagram account “buducnostsrbijeav”, thanking Xi for the warm welcome, the “exceptional hospitality, sincere friendship, and support that China continuously provides to our people and our country.”

Vučić emphasised that he especially thanked the Chinese President for all the investments by Chinese companies in Serbia and the major projects already realised, and said that he had extended an invitation for new investments in the future.

Xi: Sharing firm friendship, we want to further strengthen relations

Chinese President Xi Jinping stated that China, sharing a very firm friendship with Serbia, supports Serbia’s efforts to maintain national unity, interests, and social stability, and that China wants to work together to further improve relations.

At the beginning of the meeting with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, Xi said that the world today is turbulent and changing, which makes it even more important to preserve the unity and cooperation of the two countries and to adopt the correct historical perspective and outcomes of the war.

He recalled that the Chinese people fought for years and won one of the most significant victories in the war, stressing that the Serbian people, among all the peoples of Yugoslavia, also fought persistently against foreign aggression and marched towards independence.

“Yesterday, during the reception and also at the evening event, people sang Bella Ciao from the Yugoslav film ‘The Bridge’. It is a very popular song. It was also a tribute to the heroic contribution of the people of Yugoslavia during the war. Our two great nations fought both in Europe and in Asia, made great sacrifices, and contributed significantly to the defeat of fascism,” Xi underlined.

Vučić also meets with Power China representatives in Beijing

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić also met today in Beijing with representatives of the Chinese company Power China, which is working on numerous infrastructure projects in Serbia, primarily focusing on energy and infrastructure.

Yesterday in Beijing, Vučić held meetings with representatives of several Chinese companies, including HBIS, SANY Renewable Energy, China Energy, XPeng AEROHT, iFlytek, CRBC, Guangdong Hongda, and Zijin Mining Group.
