Serbia’s current account deficit widened by 124% on the year in the first five months of the year to reach 1.654 billion euro ($1.927 billion), the central bank, NBS, said.
In the January-May period, the deficit in trade of goods rose by an annual 18% to 3.003 billion euro, while the surplus in trade of services narrowed by 16% to 1.016 billion euro, NBS said in a data release on Thursday.
The primary income deficit widened by an annual 4% to 1.138 billion euro, whereas the surplus in secondary income narrowed by 8% to 1.551 billion euro.
In May alone, Serbia’s current account gap widened by 2% on the year to 334 million euro.
In 2024, Serbia’s current account gap widened to 3.899 billion euro from 1.804 billion euro in the prior year, according to revised data NBS published last month.
