Ukraine ratifies historic 100-year security pact with the United Kingdom

The Ukrainian Parliament has ratified a historic agreement with the United Kingdom establishing a “100-year partnership” aimed at strengthening defense, security, and economic cooperation for future generations.

The measure was passed with 295 votes in favor, according to information from MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak on September 17.

The agreement was signed on January 16 and was described by officials as a historic step in deepening bilateral relations.

Its provisions cover a wide range of areas, from military cooperation to trade and cultural exchange.

The key points of the pact include:

-expanding cooperation in the field of defense and security relations;

-reaching consensus on Ukraine’s candidacy for NATO membership;

-building partnerships in the field of maritime security;

-increasing economic and trade cooperation;

-strengthening cooperation in the field of energy, climate, and the transition to clean energy;

-strengthening justice and accountability mechanisms;

-combating foreign disinformation and interference;

-promoting leadership in science, technology, and innovation;

-expanding cooperation on human rights, gender equality, social inclusion, and protection;

-coordinating migration policies.

As part of the agreement, the UK will expand its role in training Ukrainian fighter pilots and will help provide NATO-standard aircraft for Kyiv.

The partnership also provides for deeper cooperation in the field of long-range weapons and investment in Ukraine’s defense industry, particularly in the production of drones.

Officials in Kiev described the pact as symbolic and practical – an agreement that underscores the UK’s long-term commitment to Ukraine’s sovereignty and security, while strengthening its ability to withstand Russian aggression.
