Ukrainian ports increased cargo handling by 60% year-on-year to 53 million tonnes in the first half of 2024, Ukrainian media reported, citing the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority (USPA).
“In total Ukraine’s ports handled 53 million tonnes in the first six months of 2024, compared to 31.2 million tonnes a year earlier, and processed 6,046 vessels,” the USPA said.
Cargo traffic through ports rose 50% year-on-year to 7 million tonnes in June alone. About 80% or 5.6 million tonnes of this went through the Ukrainian sea corridor and 3.6 million tonnes of this cargo consisted of Ukrainian agricultural products.
Grain remained the leading cargo, accounting for 4.4 million tonnes of cargo handled in June compared to 3.4 million tonnes a year earlier, and ore followed with 1.2 million tonnes, up from 0.2 million tonnes.
“Ninety percent of foreign trade is going through Danube ports and Greater Odessa ports. Danube ports are now exporting at a level of 1.3 million-1.5 million tonnes [per month],” USPA head Yury Litvin said in the press release.
