Exports of Ukrainian goods by value stood at $3.1 billion and at 6.6 million tonnes by volume in January 2025, plunging by nearly 50% from the 12 million tonnes recorded in January 2024, Ukrainian media outlets cited First Deputy Prime Minister and Economy Minister Yulia Sviridenko as saying on social media.
“Logistics remains critically important, and sea transport played a role in it, ensuring the export of 6.6 million tonnes of goods,” Sviridenko said.
Ukraine’s largest exports in January 2025 were corn ($521 million, or 2.5 million tonnes), sunflower oil ($426 million, or 378 million tonnes), iron ores and concentrates ($247 million, or 3.1 million tonnes), wheat ($188 million, or 891,000 tonnes), insulated wire and cables ($104 million, or 6,000 tonnes), and soybeans ($90 million, or 223,000 tonnes), she said.
The European Union remains Ukraine’s main trading partner, importing $1.8 billion worth of Ukrainian goods in January 2025, Sviridenko said.
As reported, Ukraine’s exports to countries outside the EU totaled $1.3 billion last month. The largest markets for Ukrainian goods were Egypt, Turkey, China, and the United States.
Ukrainian exports went down by 3.6% or by $117 million, while imports dropped 16.9% or by $1.04 billion in January 2025 month-on-month, she said.
That was due to a variety of factors, including the seasonal decline in oilseed exports and smaller exports of metals, especially of iron ore, because of the low demand in China, Sviridenko said.
Sviridenko said earlier that Ukraine exported goods for $41 billion in 2024, an increase of 13.4% or by $4.94 billion year-on-year.
