Georgia’s foreign trade deficit with Russia up 19% in H1

The trade turnover between Georgia and Russia increased 7% year-on-year to $1.28 billion in January-June 2025, the National Statistics Office of Georgia said on its website.

Georgian exports declined 2% to $332.2 million in the first half, while imports from Russia grew 10.5% to $950.5 million. Georgia’s negative trade balance with Russia amounted to $608.2 million, up 18.7%.

In the commodity structure of Georgia’s exports to Russia, wine shipments fell 34.5% in value terms to $72.8 million, exports of other alcoholic beverages totaled $65.1 million (down 6.1%), mineral water exports reached $41.75 million (up 2.4%) and beverages with added sugar amounted to $27.1 million (down 3.9%).

In the structure of imports from Russia, supplies of oil and petroleum products rose 7.5% to $284.5 million, gaseous hydrocarbons 27.2% to $128 million and wheat 17% to $32.25 million. Imports of machinery and equipment declined to $24.3 million from $119,900 a year previously, and semis from iron and unalloyed steel to $21.7 million from $80,100.

Trade turnover between Georgia and Russia amounted to $2.53 billion in 2024, up 5.4%. Georgian exports over the year grew 3.7% to $681.5 million, while imports from Russia rose 6% to $1.85 billion. Georgia’s foreign trade deficit with Russia totaled $1.17 billion, up 7.4%.
