In 2022, 14.8 million tons of cargo were transported via Georgian Railway, of which local shipping accounts for 12.8%, international shipping (not including transit)- 28.6% from, transit – 58.6%.
In 2022, Turkey accounts for 14.9% of the total transit cargo, the Netherlands -7.8%, Italy- 6.7%, China – 3.5%.
In 2022, 25.0% of transit cargo were transported from Kazakhstan, 20.7%- from Turkmenistan, 6.6%- from the Russian Federation, 6.4% from Brazil and 2.4% from China.
In 2022, 71.9% of the total transit cargo account for three commodity groups: coal and lignite; crude oil and natural gas (1 129 021 thousand ton km), metal ore and other mining and quarry products; Uranium and thorium ore (627 344 thousand ton km), food products, beverages and tobacco (583 443 thousand ton km).
As for the upward trend, statistics show that in 2022 the Georgian railway carried a total of 3,184,189 thousand ton km of cargo, in 2021- 2,432,523 thousand ton km ( a 30.9% growth.)
