The increased demand for the Middle Corridor transit route has positively affected the transport companies, Levan Tatarashvili, CEO at IBEX Logistics, says.
According to Tatarashvili, based on the 2023 data, demand for transportation is expected to increase by 500%, in 2024 this figure will increase even more. The main task is to improve the infrastructure, primarily to modernize the railway line, on which business has high hopes.
“We are observing dynamics, the role of the Middle Corridor has increased that definitely affects our activities. To organize the infrastructure is what we should do first. In particular, the railway is planned to be modernized in a bid to significantly simplify the transportation amid the current delays. In our case, out of every 100 requests, 10 can be executed; we are not able to segment cargos. Currently, Georgia sees an unprecedentedly high demand for transportation. No one can specify volumes, they are individual for each company. In our case, demand increased by 500%,” Levan Tatarashvili notes.
The company CEO has high expectations of the planned major infrastructure projects, including the Anaklia port, that will radically change the current reality.
“Despite some obstacles, the Middle Corridor still plays a big role, Georgia is involved in this process as well. Our geographic location has enhanced our role. Logistics was rebuilt, and Georgia was actively involved in this process. If the Anaklia port project is carried out, the situation will improve and we’ll increase cargo flows by at least 150%,” Levan Tatarashvili points out.
The Middle Corridor was established in February 2014 with the participation of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Georgia. Later, Ukraine, Romania and Poland joined the project. Currently, the route starts from the Chinese-Kazakh border and passes through Kazakhstan, the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan and Georgia towards Europe.
