Chinese Chamber of Commerce to open an office in Belgrade

The Representative Office of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce, which brings together more than 300,000 companies, will be opened in Belgrade soon, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia announced today.

The President of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Ren Hongbin, informed the President of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, Marko Čadež, at a meeting in Beijing that the formal procedure for establishing the representative office of this business association in Serbia has begun.

After the meeting with Hongbin, with whom he opened the major Belt and Road forum, Čadež said that the arrival of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce opens up enormous opportunities for cooperation between the two countries’ economies.

He stated that Serbia should be a “smart crossroads” in the new chapter of the Belt and Road initiative, as it has already been recognised as a major regional hub for innovative start-ups and IT companies.

“We discussed elevating the Belt and Road initiative to a higher level, looking at how we can integrate more deeply when it comes to the green economy, sustainability and, above all, digitalisation. This is where Serbia has its place, and it is a great honour that our Chinese friends have recognised our country’s potential to serve as a kind of smart crossroads,” said Čadež.

He recalled that Serbia was the only country invited to open the conference in China together with the President of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce, which he described as a great honour.

Čadež and Hongbin also discussed other issues aimed at strengthening cooperation, including China’s participation in the specialised EXPO 2027 exhibition in Belgrade.

As he pointed out, Hongbin is directly responsible for China’s participation in this exhibition, and it is expected that the Chinese pavilion will be one of the most impressive.

“We have agreed on many new things. In three weeks, we will be back in China to discuss the Land and Sea International Trade Corridor, which we founded together with 18 other countries and where we are recognised as the initiator of the corridor’s digitalisation. As for digital cooperation between institutes, accelerators and start-up systems, it has been agreed that this will be coordinated from Serbia, which is a great honour for us,” Čadež said.

The Chinese Chamber of Commerce has a network of more than 800 local and industrial associations across the country, as well as representative offices at the EU headquarters in Brussels, and in Italy, France, Poland and Russia.

Chinese companies in Serbia employ around 30,000 workers.
