Georgian external trade up 3.7% in January-September with Turkey, Russia, US top partners

The Georgian external trade turnover amounted to $16.77 billion between January-September, posting a 3.7 percent year-on-year increase, with the list of top trading partners of the county topped by Turkey with $2.33 billion, Russia with $1.83 billion and the United States with $1.47 billion.

The value of exports increased by 4.1 percent and equalled $4.78 billion, while imports also increased by 3.6 percent, amounting to $11.99 billion in the reporting period.

The list of exports was headed by Kyrgyzstan ($908mln), Kazakhstan ($634.9mln) and Azerbaijan ($544.3mln), while imports were topped by Turkey ($1.98bln), the United States ($1.37bln) and Russia ($1.31bln).

Motor vehicles dominated the list of top export items, reaching a value of $1.76 billion, accounting for 36.8 percent of the total exports. Following closely behind were ferro-alloys with a total export value of $227.1 million, constituting 4.7 percent of the overall exports. Fresh grape wines secured the third position, with exports totalling $214.5 million, making up 4.5 percent of the total exports.

In the meantime, the primary import commodities were motor vehicles, with imports totalling $2.34 billion, accounting for 19.5 percent of the total imports. Petroleum and petroleum oils took second place with $982.4 million, representing 8.2 percent of imports, followed by medical drugs packaged in doses, the import of which amounted to $462.8 million, equivalent to 3.9 percent of total imports.

In another figure of domestic exports, Geostat said the country exported locally produced goods worth $4.78 billion in the reporting period, marking a 4.1 percent year-on-year increase.

The Office said local exports in the country had accounted for 46.6 percent of the total exports and amounted to $2.04 billion between January-September – a 4.9 percent decrease year-on-year.
