Serbia signs a Memorandum of Understanding with Italy

Minister of Agriculture Dragan Glamočić signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Verona with his Italian counterpart Francesco Lollobrigida, thereby enhancing agricultural cooperation between Serbia and Italy across 22 areas.

This includes, among other things, the exchange of experience, twinning projects, and joint participation in agricultural fairs. Glamočić told Tanjug news agency that action plans have been defined and that the respective ministries will alternately organise meetings in Serbia and Italy.

“Italy, as a very important foreign trade partner of Serbia, ranks third, immediately after Germany and China,” said Glamočić.

The minister emphasised that Italy is Serbia’s second most important export market. “In the first two months of this year, we managed to increase our exports to Italy by more than 70 per cent compared with the previous year, which clearly demonstrates the importance of cooperation between the two countries,” he added.

Italy’s Minister of Agriculture, Francesco Lollobrigida, stated that this memorandum continues the strong cooperation between the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, and the Prime Minister of Italy, Giorgia Meloni. “The memorandum entails strengthening this cooperation and expanding it within the agricultural sector,” Lollobrigida told Tanjug.

Minister Glamočić began his working visit to Italy today, where he will take part in the prestigious international wine fair Vinitaly in Verona.

During the day, he is scheduled to address the conference titled “Recognising the Cultural Value of the Vine and Wine: International Perspectives”.

During his stay in Italy, he is also expected to meet with a delegation from Georgia and to visit the stand where Serbia is being presented through the “Wine Vision” initiative as part of the fair.

At the stand, Serbian businesses will showcase the potential of the domestic wine industry. The European Commissioner for Agriculture and Food, Christophe Hansen, is also attending the fair as a guest.

The international wine fair “Vinitaly” has been held in Verona for 58 years and represents one of the key gathering points of the global wine industry.

Over four days, from 12 to 15 April, the fair will bring together producers, distributors, and experts from around the world through business meetings, tastings, educational programmes, and professional conferences.

Glamočić arrived in Italy on Sunday, after attending the opening of international agriculture and forestry fairs in the Czech city of Brno.
