Georgia’s Foreign Trade Up 1.7% in January-April 2026

Georgia’s external merchandise trade, excluding non-declared trade, amounted to USD 8.132 billion in January-April 2026, up 1.7% year-on-year, according to preliminary data published by the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat) on May 19. Kyrgyzstan emerged as Georgia’s top export destination, while Turkey remained the country’s leading import partner, with motor cars continuing to dominate trade on both sides.

Exports increased by 21.1% year-on-year to USD 2.439 billion, while imports fell by 4.9% to USD 5.692 billion. The trade deficit stood at USD 3.253 billion, accounting for 40% of total external trade turnover.

Kyrgyzstan was the leading export destination with USD 272.8 million, followed by China with USD 255.1 million and Azerbaijan with USD 211.3 million. The top ten export partners accounted for 72.1% of Georgia’s total exports.

Motor cars remained the leading export commodity, totaling USD 537.4 million and accounting for 22% of total exports. Petroleum and petroleum oils followed with USD 324.1 million, or 13.3% of exports. Precious metal ores and concentrates ranked third at USD 225.1 million, making up 9.2% of total exports.

On the import side, Turkey remained the largest trading partner, generating USD 903.1 million, followed by Russia with USD 766.3 million and China with USD 678.2 million. The top ten import partners accounted for 70.5% of Georgia’s total imports.

Motor cars also topped the list of imported goods, totaling USD 925.9 million, 16.3% of the total imports. Petroleum and petroleum oils followed at USD 471.3 million (8.3%), while petroleum gases and other gaseous hydrocarbons ranked third with USD 254.1 million, accounting for 4.5% of imports.
