Georgia discusses deepening bilateral ties with Kazakhstan

As the Kazakh Foreign Ministry reports, Kazakh Foreign Minister Yermek Kosherbayev met with his Georgian counterpart Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili, during his visit to Tbilisi.
Mainly, the current state and prospects of Kazakh-Georgian relations were the central topics of the talks. The discussion was pragmatic, multifaceted and built on shared interest in promoting sustainable and mutually beneficial cooperation.
According to Kosherbayev, Kazakhstan considers Georgia as a reliable political and economic partner in the South Caucasus. He also highlighted centuries-old traditions of friendship and mutual support between the countries. Moreover, the Minister noted Georgia’s importance role as a key link in the regional transport and logistics architecture connecting Europe and Asia.
As Kosherbayev underlined, contacts at the highest and high levels are important for creating a solid foundation for today’s meaningful discussion of current issues on the bilateral agenda. Meanwhile, he noted that the results of the official visit of Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze to Kazakhstan in February 2025. It gave an additional impetus to bilateral cooperation. Due to that, Kazakh-Georgian relations achieved a qualitatively new level.
Notably, the both sides acknowledged the positive dynamics in trade turnover during the discussion of the economic matters. The volume of Kazakhstani investments in the Georgian economy exceeded 600 million US dollars. Also, Kazakhstani companies actively participated in the country’s logistics, energy and finance projects.
Particularly, one of the key priorities of cooperation is the development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR).
As Kosherbayev said, a steady increase of its capacity, better predictability of transport services and transparency of tariff policy were the counties’ common tasks.
The initiative of Kazakh President Kassym Jomart Tokayev to establish an International Water Organization under the UN also drew attention of the Kazakh official. Its aims are strengthening global cooperation in the sustainable management of water resources and ensuring water security.
Also, the significant potential for expanding cooperation in the agro-industrial complex, digital economy and financial services was noted by both ministers.
Both sides are confident that the negotiations held during the ongoing visit would consolidate the positive momentum achieved. They identified concrete steps of further development of cooperation across key areas such as transport and logistics, energy, trade and investment.
Finally, a Program of Cooperation between the Foreign Ministries for 2026-2027 was signed by Kosherbayev and Botchorishvili following the talks.
