PARLIAMENT COMPELS ELECTRICITY SUPPLIERS TO IMPORT ENERGY MINIMUM FROM TWO SOURCES

Power suppliers working on the Moldovan energy market must import electrical energy minimum from two sources, as per the amendments to the corresponding legislation that were voted for on Thursday by 57 parliamentarians representing the ruling Party of Action and Solidarity and by one representative of the opposition bloc of Communists and Socialists.

The law also provides for changes in the status of MoldElectrica as an independent system operator (ISO). This is provided for by the requirements of the Third Energy Package of the EU, which Moldova has committed to implement.

The volume of financial guarantees of companies responsible for balancing the system is also being reduced. While earlier they were required to provide a financial guarantee in the amount not less than the estimated monthly consumption, now it will be about 15-20% of this volume.

The law, drafted by the Government, is designed to build up security and reliability of uninterrupted supplying of electricity.
